Belinda Hanson has practiced family law for more than two decades. For much of that time, Belinda’s practice has focused on high asset dissolution cases involving complex financial issues such as venture capital, hedge fund, private equity, privately held companies, equity compensation, and real estate. She also has experience in divorces involving intellectual property rights, including music royalties.
A divorce affects every part of a person’s financial and personal life. Belinda’s approach to cases is often interdisciplinary, involving the coordination of outside specialists and experts in areas such as business, tax, estate planning, corporate, or intellectual property. For most clients, their divorce is the largest financial transaction they will do in their lifetime so it is essential for them to have the highest level of specialized advice about all aspects of the financial issues in their case. Clients should also feel that they have a strong advocate who understands that divorce is more than legal – it is highly personal.
In order to give each case the attention it deserves and requires, Belinda deliberately takes only a handful of cases at a time. This allows her to use a “hands-on” approach that provides effective solutions tailored to each client’s unique situation. She takes a holistic view of each client to be sure that they are not only getting the best legal advice about all issues that could potentially relate to their divorce, but also so that each client feels well supported by her and the full team throughout the process. Equally important, clients trust that their matters will remain strictly confidential. Belinda has represented many high-profile people in Silicon Valley and throughout California, and has been successful in achieving resolution while also keeping the matter out of public view.
Choosing the right process for your divorce is an important strategic decision. Belinda represents clients through all phases of a case, whether it is litigation before private judges or in public courthouses, or through a negotiated settlement. Getting the best negotiated settlement requires specialized advocacy and Belinda trained in negotiation techniques at the Program on Negotiation at Harvard Law School.
When not at work or spending time with her two daughters, she enjoys hiking and traveling.
